Hi, I'm glad you're here! One of the things I love about being a spiritual director is helping people notice God’s activity in their everyday lives. Life can feel hard, disorienting, isolating, and meaningless at times. But when a person becomes aware of God’s presence in their daily life, it somehow removes the constant pressure of our modern society to perform and produce. Instead, there’s an invitation to notice how God loves us wholly— in the mundane–in the desolations and consolations. No matter how ordinary your life may seem, God wants to participate in your life; God cares about what you care about; God delights in you! Spiritual direction helps cultivate awareness of God’s presence. I believe awareness starts with being honest about our questions, desires, longings, joys, and sorrows. Spiritual direction is a safe space to explore and discover–to know yourself and God more intimately.

 What Is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is an ancient formational practice that invites you into deeper awareness and authentic connection with yourself and God through deep listening, discernment, and contemplative practices. In this sacred practice, a spiritual director walks alongside you as a companion on your spiritual journey to help you listen for and discern God’s voice, as well as your inner wisdom. Spiritual direction helps you become more aware of God’s activity in your daily life.

Why Seek Spiritual Direction?

I’ll start by answering a question with a question. How often do you get the opportunity to share honestly from your soul and feel deeply heard and listened to by another? Probably not often, if ever. In spiritual direction, spiritual directors (also known as companions or guides) are trained listeners. We create space for you to share authentically. Spiritual direction provides a safe and sacred space for you to explore, notice, be curious, and discover meaning.

Is Spiritual Direction a New Practice?

No, spiritual direction dates to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th centuries when early Christians, known as Desert Mothers and Fathers, lived monastically in the deserts of Egypt and Syria. As these Christian mystics sought God through simplicity and solitude, people noticed their devotion and went to them for spiritual wisdom.

How Is Spiritual Direction Different from Therapy?

Spiritual directors and therapists both use deep listening to engage with people and their stories. However, therapy focuses on mental wellness and behavioral change. Spiritual direction focuses on cultivating spiritual awareness–deepening your relationship and experiences with God and Self.

In spiritual direction:

• There's no diagnosing or fixing behaviors.

• We recognize and hold space for mystery and the sacred.

• There's a beautiful threefold relationship between you, God, and the director. The Spirit is the real director! The goal is to help you draw closer to God.

• Sessions typically begin with a centering ritual like lighting a candle, silence, Scripture reading, or deep breathing
.

How Often Are Spiritual Direction Sessions?

Most of my directees meet with me once a month, but frequency varies depending upon each directee's needs.
You decide when you'd like to meet (how often), and we'll schedule a time.
I offer in-person and virtual sessions.

Is Spiritual Direction Only for Christians?

Some spiritual directors have a Christian-focused practice. However, many spiritual directors meet with people of other faiths or who identify as spiritual or non-religious. No matter their religious backgrounds, many people find spiritual direction to be a safe, inclusive space to explore their spirituality. In my context as a Christian–a follower of Jesus Christ–I am able (and willing!) to hold space for you wherever you are on your spiritual journey. I am accepting new directees for in-person and virtual sessions. (See the button below for a free consultation.)

**Spiritual direction is not a substitute for therapy. Ethically, spiritual directors are discouraged from meeting with a directee who has a serious mental illness unless the director can confirm the directee regularly sees their therapist and or psychologist and is taking necessary prescribed medication.

My Calling as a Spiritual Director

I love people, building relationships, and being a compassionate listener! I deeply value authenticity and am passionate about creating a safe space for you to be yourself and share honestly from your soul! I enjoy helping people discover their deepest longings and desires. I have a deep capacity for walking alongside those experiencing seasons of great suffering and life transitions, such as divorce. My spiritual gifts of discernment, healing, and prophecy deeply inform my role as a spiritual director who practices being attentive to the Spirit. I find great joy in helping people experience God, discern God’s voice, and notice God in their everyday lives!

Testimonials

I have loved my sessions with LaSaundra! I’m a nurse of physical bodies, but she is a nurse of the soul! She is very discerning; she always knows how to ask the right questions. I’ve grown so much as a person, and I feel closer to God! I used to think I wasn’t doing enough to experience God; I wasn’t reading my Bible enough. Since meeting with LaSaundra for spiritual direction, I experience God’s presence in my day-to-day activities and even when I feel stressed at work. I believe spiritual direction is something everyone needs! - L. Krug

Working with LaSaundra has truly deepened my relationship with God. Through our sessions, I’ve learned to hear His voice in ways I never imagined, both in quiet moments and in the everyday spaces I used to overlook. I’ve gained new insights into how He speaks to me whether through prayer, scripture, or even in ways uniquely matched for me. It’s not always about the answers but about sitting in the questions and trusting God. What stands out most is LaSaundra’s calm and grounded presence. I felt completely safe opening up to her, even about the things I usually keep tucked away. She created a space where I could be honest, ask hard questions, and grow spiritually without fear or judgment. I’m so grateful for her guidance and care. If you’re looking for someone to walk alongside you in your spiritual journey with wisdom, grace, and genuine peace, LaSaundra is truly a gift. - Melanie S.

LaSaundra is a trusted colleague and also a dear friend. She is deeply committed to the field of ministry and to the people she serves. Firmly rooted in her faith, she shares it openly and authentically. Her experience as a former journalist has equipped her with the ability to connect genuinely with people and their stories. Her focus on contemplative practices gives her a unique ability to guide others on their spiritual journey—those who are curious and exploring or have a deep connection to their faith. LaSaundra is warm, kind, and deeply understanding, with a gift for listening attentively and offering meaningful direction. When she prays, she does so with conviction that inspires and uplifts. I highly recommend LaSaundra for her services and for the heart she brings to her work as a spiritual director.
